Since most pesticides (including herbicides) are oil-soluble and are not easily soluble in water; various surfactants must be used to emulsify them into oil-in-water emulsions before use. Generally, the surface tension of the aqueous surfactant solution is above 30 mN/m; while the surface tension of the aqueous solution of the silicone surfactant is mostly about 20 mN/m. The surface tension of the aqueous solution and the wetting ability and wetting speed of the aqueous solution on the solid surface, especially the hydrophobic surface. There is a direct relationship; the smaller the surface tension, the faster the aqueous solution wets the solid surface, and the larger the wetted area or the spread area. The surface of the leaves, stems and stems of the plant has a very thin hydrophobic wax film. After the pesticide emulsion emulsified with the general surfactant is applied to the leaves, stems and stems of the plant, the wetting speed is slow and the spreading area is small. Due to the capillary effect, many fine pore pesticides do not penetrate, and those pests that are not wetted by the pesticide can still survive; the same applies to the weeds that need to be removed, because the herbicide cannot penetrate into the pores of the weeds. A small amount of silicone surfactant is added to the herbicide formulation to reduce the amount of herbicide by more than one-third. According to the China Pesticide Network , because the surface tension of silicone surfactants is very low, it can promote the rapid wetting of pesticide emulsions and penetrate into every small part of the leaves, stems and stems of plants, so that the effects of pesticides can be maximized. And the action time is greatly extended.
