As part of the German Photovoltaics Innovation Alliance, the first R&D project that took three years to complete, recently reported a world record for PERC (passivated emitter and back-battery) solar modules with 306 watts (60 cells). This result was certified by TÃœV Rheinland.
The “Sun†R&D project of the Photovoltaic Innovation Alliance is led by SolarWorld (ETR:SWV). Eleven supply companies and four R&D institutes increase conversion efficiency and increase the reliability and longevity of components.
The goal of this project is to increase current PERC components from 240-250W to more than 300W.
The second-generation PERC process is used, and tempered thin film glass or glass encapsulation is enabled, which is said to increase the component performance guarantee to thirty years.
The SUN project, which includes other unfinished projects, received financial support from the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Energy Security (BMU) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) of 21.5 million euros ($29.3 million). 50% of funds come from participating companies.
