Key technologies for the development of ultra-heavy oil in thin reservoirs in China break industry problems

China has found that the ultra-heavy oil low-grade reserves of thin reservoirs with a thickness of less than 6 meters and a crude oil viscosity of 50,000 mPa · s or more exceed 700 million tons. However, due to the high viscosity of crude oil in the reservoir and the rapid heat dissipation of the thin reservoir, the ultra-heavy oil in the thin reservoir has been difficult to be effectively used.

As a key scientific and technological breakthrough project of Sinopec Corp., Sinopec Shengli Oilfield puts the key technical breakthrough in the efficient development of ultra-heavy oil in thin reservoirs in an important position. Starting with the innovation and integration of new heavy oil thermal recovery supporting technologies, they have developed key technologies for the efficient development of ultra-heavy oil in thin reservoirs, formed seven enterprise technical standards and four scientific and technological innovations, and greatly improved the utilization of petroleum resources for Sinopec Rate provides superior core technology. After being appraised by relevant experts, this key technology has filled the domestic gap and reached the international leading level overall.

People often use "like a broken plate and kicked" to describe the underground conditions of Shengli Oilfield, and this "plate" almost covers 2/3 of the world's reservoir types. Complex reservoir types provide impetus for continuous technological innovation in Shengli Oilfield. The key technology for efficient development of ultra-thick oil in thin reservoirs is the representative of Shengli Oilfield's technological innovation. It is understood that in the past 9 years of application of this technology, the newly-added thin-reservoir super-heavy oil reserves increased by 188 million tons, and the cumulative increase in crude oil production was 18.46 million tons.

During the application of this technology only in Chunfeng Oilfield in the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, the country's first full-scale deployment of shallow and thin reservoir ultra-heavy oil reserves was 41.97 million tons, and a thin reservoir ultra-heavy crude oil production base was built.
