Guan Kexiang et al. studied the effect of single rare earth Ce on the mechanical properties of industrial pure aluminum ("Aluminium Processing", No. 6, 2007, pp. 18-21). The refinement of impurities in pure aluminum and the distribution of rare earths were investigated. Between grain boundaries and dendrites, they form high-melting intermetallic compounds with impurities such as Fe and Si, refine the impurities in the Fe-rich phase, and simultaneously stabilize the grain boundary; due to the refinement of the Fe-rich phase, the dispersion is uniform. Distribution, and thus greatly improved mechanical properties, tensile strength increased by 44.18%, elongation increased by 32.04%; preferred rare earth additions were 0.03%.
