There was no gas turbine industry before the liberation of China. After liberation, more than ten models of gas turbines for land, sea and air use were trial-produced throughout the country. In 1956, the first batch of jet aircraft manufactured in China was tested. Since 1958, many factories have designed and manufactured various gas turbines.
In 1962, the Shanghai Steam Turbine Plant trial-produced marine gas turbines. In 1964, it cooperated with Shanghai Shipyard to make 550KW gas turbines. In 1965, it made 6000KW train power station gas turbines. In 1971, it made 3000KW truck power plants. During this period, several marine gas turbines such as 3295KW, 4410KW and 18380KW were also produced in cooperation with the 703 Research Institute.
In 1969, Harbin Steam Turbine Works made 2200KW locomotive gas turbine and 1000KW free piston gas turbine. In 1973, it cooperated with 703 Research Institute to make 4410KW marine gas turbine, and cooperated with Changchun Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory to make 3295KW locomotive gas turbine.
In 1964, Nanjing Steam Turbine Motor Factory made 1500KW power station gas turbine; in 1970, it made 37KW pump gas turbine; in 1972, it made 1000KW power station gas turbine; in 1977, it made 21700KW fast-mounted power station gas turbine; in 1984, it cooperated with GE company to produce PG6541B. Type 36000KW gas turbine; from 1984 to 2004, it has produced four types of gas turbines: PG6541B, PG6551B, PG6561B and PG6581B. The power has increased from 36,000 KW to the current 43660 kW. In 2003, the National Development and Reform Commission decided that Nanjing Steam Turbine Motor Group Co., Ltd. and GE Company would further expand the scope of cooperation and produce gas turbines, steam turbines and generators in the S209E gas-steam combined cycle power generation unit in Nanjing Steam Turbine Motor Group Co., Ltd.
In 1978, Dongfang Steam Turbine Works made 6000KW gas turbine; in 1972, Hangzhou Steam Turbine Plant made 200KW gas turbine; in 1972, Qingdao Steam Turbine Plant made 1500KW truck power station gas turbine.
In 2003, the National Development and Reform Commission decided to build a gas turbine production base in Qinhuangdao and cooperate with GE to produce MS9001FA gas turbines. The production base is affiliated to Harbin Electric Group, and together with Harbin Steam Turbine Works and Harbin Electric Machinery Plant, it produces S109FA-SS gas-steam combined cycle power generation equipment. The first MS9001FA gas turbine assembled in Qinhuangdao in August 2004 was shipped to Hangzhou Banshan Power Plant.
On December 15, China's first heavy-duty gas turbine with independent intellectual property rights and AVIC Dawn R0110 heavy-duty gas turbine completed the 72-hour load test operation assessment at CNOOC Shenzhen Power Co., Ltd. The operation test verified the design status of the R0110 heavy-duty gas turbine and was an important milestone in the development of the heavy-duty gas turbine, laying a good foundation for commercial operation in the future.
