On July 7, 2014, the design community gathered in the German city of Essen to attend the prestigious international red dot award. 40 well-known judges reviewed 4,815 entries from 53 countries. Freeformer won the award, which is the first time Arburg has obtained. The pioneer's additive manufacturing system won this award with Apple, Audi and Adidas.
“Quality, functionality and machine design are becoming more and more important in procurement. Mr. Herbert Kaibuehler said that the former production director who just retired in April 2014 has promoted the development of Freeformer in the past decade. In 2013 At the K show, Freeformer was first introduced to the market, which also marked the entry of Arburg into the future market for industrial additive manufacturing.
Focus on future industrial design
The product design was commissioned by Juergen R. Schmid, design company and design manager of Ammerbuch, Germany. As industrial product design experts, they design the product's recognizability, future sustainability and uniqueness, combining aesthetics and functionality. The design includes an operating space with rotating glass doors, an easy to operate and foldable touch screen computer.
In addition, the entire product is also considered to be able to move in from the ordinary door.
The clear and soft lines of the casing resemble modern communication equipment and are ideally suited for use in design and implementation rooms. The feedback from the customer and the red dot award prove that the entire design is visually very successful.
Innovative system for additive manufacturing
Arburg is the world's leading manufacturer of modular injection molding machines that enable high-volume production of plastic products. In order to achieve efficient production of small batches in one shot, Arburg examines additive manufacturing from the perspective of a machine manufacturer and applies the plastics to the development of Freeformer and Arburg plastic freeforms. All Freeformers require a main socket, 3D CAD and standard plastic particles. As with injection molding, plastic particles need to dissolve in the barrel. Through high-frequency piezoelectric technology, a special nozzle sprays small particles layer by layer on three or five axes. A three-dimensional product is produced in layers. Because of the molten material, no dust or emissions are produced.
Freeformer won the 2014 Red Dot Award for Outstanding Product Design Award, which is the first time Arburg has won the award.
