According to the ITTO Tropical Tropical Market Report, in March 2009, Malaysian Minister of Plantation and Raw Materials Chen Huagui recently submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance. In view of the continued shrinking of the Malaysian furniture export market, it is required to provide export tax rebates to domestic furniture exporters. . South Africa's "Business Times" reported that the proposal was modeled after the Chinese government's 11% to 13% export tax rebate model for Chinese furniture exporters. Chen Huagui pointed out that the proposal is very important because the furniture industry can provide the highest added value for the local timber industry. Chen Huagui also proposed to the Ministry of Finance to cancel the import tariffs on furniture parts. Because Malaysia currently imposes import duties on furniture parts and does not impose import duties on the whole piece of furniture, Malaysian furniture exports are not competitive in the international market. Chen Huagui added that the Ministry of Plantation and Original Products is investigating the feasibility of issuing a general work permit to migrant workers. The local furniture industry is a labor-intensive industry that relies heavily on cheap labor. However, the current work permit in Malaysia is not universal, and applying for a new work permit will increase the company's labor costs.
