60 years of metal processing in China-- induction heating for half a century

Induction heating is an important metal processing heat treatment technology. It has the advantages of fast heating speed, small deformation of workpiece, energy saving and environmental protection, and easy automation.

Since the application of the crankshaft induction hardening process in the Soviet Union and the United States in 1935, induction heating has been gradually extended to other fields. The development of power electronics in the 1950s promoted the development of induction heating technology. The development of induction heating technology in New China is roughly divided into three stages: the former Soviet aid phase in the 1950s; the self-reliance phase in the 1960s and 1970s; the introduction and technological innovation phase since the reform and opening up (Shen Qingtong: “Induction heating progress 50 years”, Mechanical Worker (Hot Processing), No. 7 (2006). For half a century, Metalworking has promoted and promoted the technical development and practical experience of induction heating technology in three stages.

One

Since the mid-1950s, China has introduced induction heating technology, first used in machine tool and textile machinery manufacturing, and later in automotive and tractor manufacturing plants. Changchun FAW, Shenyang Zhongjie Friendship Factory and Yuci Jingwei Textile Machinery Factory are the earliest enterprises to introduce induction heating equipment in China.

In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the "metal processing" thermal processing was very concerned about the application of the latest metal processing technology in new large factories. Taking the textile machinery industry as an example, Jingwei Textile Machinery Factory is the first new textile machinery factory in New China (also one of the earliest modernization factories in New China). The factory's predecessor was originally in Shanghai. In 1950, the central government decided to build a new plant in Shanxi, and it was built in 1951. It was completed and put into operation in 1954. The first editor-in-chief of "Metal Processing" thermal processing, Lin Jiaxuan, worked at the Jingwei Textile Machinery Factory. The "Metal Processing" thermal processing reporter once reported the construction plant (see Figure 1), and paid special attention to the induction heating used by the plant. The metal processing equipment such as equipment and machine tools, and the high-frequency induction furnace performance test by Jingwei Textile Machinery Factory also appeared on the cover of the metal processing hot processing (see Figure 2). At the time, the newly-built FAW and Yituo heat treatment workshops used more induction heating equipment designed by the former Soviet Union High Frequency Current Science Research Institute. "The design of these processes and equipment has driven the technical transformation of the industry and the design of the new factory. Demonstration role" (Shen Qing Tongyu).

"Metal Processing" thermal processing pays special attention to promoting practical experience. For example, in 1958, when the Northeast Machine Manufacturing Plant was manufacturing a large-scale nitrogen fertilizer equipment that was urgently needed in the country, the 2,400-horsepower nitrogen-hydrogen compressor, in addition to the famous “ant bones” method, they also boldly applied the power frequency induction heating method. The quenching of large parts and the local annealing of welds have achieved good results. The practical experience is promoted by the hot processing of "metal processing" (see Figure 3) (Wang Youliang, etc.: "Electric heating solves the key industry of heat treatment of large parts. Frequency induction heating heat treatment", Mechanical Worker (Thermal Processing), 1960, 2nd issue).

In the 1960s and 1970s, China's industry took the road of self-reliance, and induction heating technology also achieved some development. The "metal processing" thermal processing also publicized these technological advances, such as the first 20t coreless in China. Power frequency induction melting furnace (Mechanical Worker (Thermal Processing), 1976, No. 7). However, the rapid development of China's induction heating technology was after the reform and opening up in 1978. In the 1980s, China began to introduce more advanced induction heating equipment from western industrialized countries. Since the 1990s, China has made great progress in induction heating power supply, quenching machine tools, sensor design and manufacturing. .

In parallel with the development of the industry, the “Metal Processing” thermal processing has also increased its promotion and promotion in the field of induction heating since the reform and opening up. Especially in the past ten years, we have successively planned the “Induction Heating Equipment Market Analysis Survey” and “Energy Saving Forum”. "Induction heating Baoding line, Shanghai line" and other activities, and pay attention to the long-term continuous reports on quenching machine tools, induction heating and energy saving, forging induction heating, induction heating in automobile manufacturing. For example, the quenching machine tool, "Mechanical Worker (Thermal Machining)", the sixth issue of the "Quenching Machine Tool Album" in 1980, introduces all aspects of the quenching machine tool in a comprehensive way, and asks Liao Houde, a technical expert of the Sixth Design Institute of the original machine department. Seven kinds of equipments such as the universal hardening machine tool of the program-controlled semi-automatic high-frequency universal quenching machine tool of Dalian Machine Tool Plant, Tianjin Machine Tool Research Institute and Tianjin Ninth Machine Tool Plant are introduced in detail. Some products are new products that will be put into production at each plant. (See Figure 4). Since then, "metal processing" thermal processing has been irregularly invited experts to introduce the development status and trends of quenching machine tools. Another example is that energy saving is one of the advantages of induction heating equipment. As early as 1981, "Metal Processing" thermal processing introduced the energy-saving effect of high-frequency quenching of medium carbon steel gears for foreign development instead of carburizing and quenching process (Xie Wei: "Induction heating Replacing the carburizing process to save energy," Mechanical Worker (Thermal Processing), 1981, No. 12). Since then, induction heating and energy conservation have been one of the key areas of continuous focus on the metal processing of thermal processing. "Metal Processing (Hot Processing)" in the third issue of 2009 also opened "Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Series Forum - Induction Heating", with a view to strengthening the research and application of induction technology and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.

Third, experts in the industry published articles on the field of "metal processing" thermal processing, and disseminated knowledge. Some experts have been working for one or two decades. For example, Shen Qingtong, a well-known expert in the field of induction heating, has published nearly 20 articles in the "Metal Processing" thermal processing in the past 16 years since the publication of "The Design and Manufacture of Surface Quenching Sensors" in the "Metal Processing" thermal processing serialization in 1993. Many readers have learned through his article about the development of induction heating technology, the latest technology and equipment.

Industry, enterprises, and readers use the "metal processing" thermal processing as a platform for communication. For example, Li Yunhao of Xi'an Boda Electric Furnace Company read "Mechanical Workers" at the school in the 1970s. He joined the induction heating industry in 1978. His company has been advertising on "Mechanical Workers" since the 1990s, enabling users in the industry to pass "Metal Processing" has been known for their thermal processing. His "Induction Heating for Forging Industry" was published serially from "Mechanical Workers" (Hot Working) in the first issue of 2007, and has received extensive attention in the industry. As a reader, author and customer of "Metal Processing" thermal processing, he compared "Metal Processing" to "Building a Bridge for Product Promotion" and "Building a Bridge of Mutual Understanding between Authors and Readers" (Li Yunhao: "Bridge", "Metal Processing (Hot Processing)", No. 7 (2008).

Published in the article "Induction Heating Progress 50 Years" in "Metal Processing" Thermal Processing, Shen Qingtong reviewed several milestones in the development of China's induction heating technology, and talked about how he narrowed the gap between China's induction heating industry and industrialized countries. In the end, he said: "China's induction heating will take it to the next level and enter the world of induction heating development." For this common goal, we are working hard together with the induction heating industry.
