Sumitomo Rubber Industries announced on July 6, 2015 that the new tire material technology “ADVANCED 4D NANO DESIGN†being developed by the company is expected to be completed during the year. The company plans to release the technology at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015, which will be held from October 29 to November 8, and is scheduled to be applied to products after 2016.
The new technology was developed from the material development technology "4D NANO DESIGN" developed by Sumitomo Rubber in 2011. The original technology is to use the company's unique simulation technology to predict the structure and properties of rubber materials, through the control of its structure and properties, to achieve a high level of nano-level material design. Sumitomo Rubber has applied the materials developed using this technology to tire products, such as the “AAAS-a†fuel-saving tire “ENASAVE NEXT†in the tire marking system, and the braking performance on ice is improved compared to previous products. 11% studless tire "WINTERMAXX" and so on.
However, as the requirements for the performance of the tires are further increased, it is necessary to improve both the grip performance and the low fuel consumption performance at the same time while increasing the wear resistance. Therefore, Sumitomo Rubber Industries has been developing new material development technologies since 2012 (see this site's report).
The new technology utilizes a large-scale radiation facility SPring-8 (located in Sayo-cho, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan) to perform rubber structure analysis and utilizes the "J-PARC" proton accelerator and experimental facility that can achieve the world's top neutron experiment (located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Donghai Village implements motion analysis to capture the movement of atoms and molecules in the material, and then simulates the rubber model through the supercomputer “Kingâ€. According to reports, new technologies can use large-scale models that cannot be mapped by previous technologies to more accurately grasp the movement phenomena of atoms and molecules.
For example, the original technology could not reveal the molecular-level micro-destructive phenomenon and slight wear phenomenon in rubber, but the new technology can visualize it (Figure). Therefore, the new technology can greatly promote the analysis of damage phenomena, and thus develop new materials and new ratios that can prevent these phenomena. (Reporter: Matsuda Chiho)
Measure tape is a measuring Tool which is commonly used in our daily life, when building, decorating and making wooden furniture, we often use steel tape measures. In fact, besides steel tape measure, there are also other types of tape measures, such as fiberglass tape measure, laser tape measure and ground fiber tape measure.
